Former Physician Accused of Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician now faces charges for committing assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.

The Grave Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – between 2017 and 2021.

One senior prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what police described as a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the forty-five charges comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • 3 counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
