The 30-year-old sustained the injury on Saturday while fielding to dismiss Alex Carey, with the athlete holding his abdomen and grimacing in pain after falling onto the Sydney Cricket Ground field.
Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, in stable condition, and recovering well.
Treatment Process
Following immediate medical attention, the batter was unable to continue in the match, which India ultimately won by nine wickets. Australia had previously secured the series with earlier victories in the first two matches played in Western and South Australian cities.
The medical emergency was reportedly "life threatening at that moment," according to media reports.
