Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

The receiver missed the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
