Three-time NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic sustained a "devastating" injury to his knee while the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 to the Heat.

Jokic was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half during an accidental collision with teammate Spencer Jones.

Jones came down on the footwear of Jokic, and he immediately went down to the floor grabbing his knee.

The star, who tops the NBA this season in boards and assists, posted 21 points and eight assists in the contest prior to sustaining the problem.

The player is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to evaluate the extent of the problem.

"Instantly, Jokic knew he was hurt," stated Nuggets head coach David Adelman.

"This happens in professional sports. Anyone who gets hurt, it's difficult, particularly a player as important as he is. More information will come on Tuesday."

"We'll move on together. Clearly, right now, I'm more concerned just about him as a person and the frustration of facing an event of that nature."
