Two Victims Revealed in the Ivy League School Incident as Police Press On With Manhunt for Killer.
Two students who lost their lives in the weekend's violent attack at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the discharge by local law enforcement of the only individual detained in connection in the case.
Remembering Ella Cook
Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.
Cook was vice-president of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Karoline Leavitt also posted sympathies online, stating: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”
The Second Victim
The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, family members said.
Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.
“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.
The Shooting Incident
An additional nine individuals were hurt in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.
Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a search at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.
“A perpetrator remains free,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.
He added, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last 24 hours or so.”
Ongoing Concerns
The city's mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our community”.
The assailant opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a 9mm pistol, a authority informed the Associated Press.
Police that searched the hotel found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the individual was taken into custody, the news agency reported.
Condition of the Injured
Among those wounded, one student was released from the hospital, mentioned Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, police said on Sunday.
An educational institution, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a message. “Our profound condolences go out to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his bright future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the country's seventh most historic higher education institution with about 7,300 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, took place amid one of at least 392 mass shootings recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to data.
